eCRM
is an online Customer Relationship Management
System. The function of the eCRM will
be to allow multiple operators to interact
with multiple visitors on one or more
sites, monitor their activities and help
solve their problems, point users to a
specific part on the web, push pages.
If operators are offline then visitors
will be able to leave messages so that
their queries can be resolved later on.
The platform for this project is Sun Solaris.
The tools and technologies that are used
for this project are SQL Server for the
database; Web Sphere, JSP, Java Servlets,
Java Beans, EJB, for the developing the
backend processing; and Visual Basic as
the front end development tool. A VoIP
(Voice Over IP) feature will be added
in later release of the software to allows
users to be able to talk the operators

Virtual Secretary |
An in house application
developed by SoluComp for business professionals
that will act as a virtual secretary.
This application combines some of the
most challenging technologies avilable
in the market today to offer a comprehensive
suite of services for corporate clients.
The technology, scripting languages, database
and tools used for this project were ASP,
VB Script, Java Script, SQL Server and
Visual InterDev. The hardware platform
utlized in developing this application
are Dialogic, various Text to Speech conversion
tools, IVR (Interactive Voice Response)
tools and text translation technologies.

resource planning) for one of the largest
Group of Companies in Pakistan. The group
of companies consists of 11 separate organizations
having individual accounting entities.
The operations of the company are spread
over 17 production and sales locations
in Pakistan. The scope of the project
encompasses development of an intranet
with web-based interfaces covering all
operations integrated and stored in a
centralized database. It includes login
shell, general ledger, accounts receivables,
accounts payable, bank reconciliation,
fixed assets, sales, inventory, purchases,
production planning, human resource and
payroll.

integrated solution to manufacturing concern
in a multi user environment. The application

Strategy design for the purpose of eCommerce
goes under the evaluation of business
functions, core competencies and value
chain framework. Industries macro environmental
factors defines the position of the company,
various economic traits are evaluated.

the elements of value chain activities
and addressing other e related issues.

Consultancy
for Pakistan Ordinance Factory (WAH) Computerization
Project |
The consultants undertook the project
of POF, Wah on behalf of IBA. IBA was
selected to play the role of a third party
consultant in the computerization project
of the Pakistan Ordinance Factory at WAH.
The scope of the project encompasses a
detailed requirement analysis of the setup,
developing a list of functional requirement
for the software, preparing an implementation
strategy, developing vendor selection
criteria and preparing the Terms of References.
The vendors selected will then be awarded
the task of developing and implementing
the hardware, software and networking
solutions for the factory.

Research
Study on Implications of Electronic Commerce
in Pakistan |
In October 1999, the consultants conducted
a research study on the implications of
electronic commerce in Pakistan for Export
Promotion Bureau, from the platform of
IBA. The study identified sectors of economy
sensitive to electronic commerce, measured
their current readiness level and recommended
strategies for the government with an
implementation plan to ensure survival
of businesses in the rapidly changing
technological scenario. The report also
included design of an electronic infrastructure
at the national level that would cut operational
costs and increase efficiency.

Analysis
of ICT Manpower Data for SEARCC |
In
the last quarter of 1999, Computer society
of Pakistan, on behalf of SEARCC (South
East Asia Regional Computer Confederation),
Singapore conducted a countrywide survey
of ICT (Information and Communication
Technology) manpower and organizations
in Pakistan. The objective of the research
was to collect the baseline statistics
and also to estimate the demand and supply
of ICT manpower of the member countries
in the near future. The team members made
a detailed analysis of the data collected
and prepared a report to be finally presented
at the annual meeting of the confederation
in Singapore.

on the Extent of Information Technology
(IT) Use in Pakistani Business
|
This
study was published in Marketing Review,
Vol. 17/#2, Apr-Jun 1997.
In recent years IT applications have tremendously
transformed the way businesses are done.
Businesses are now using IT for increasing
their operational efficiency, obtaining
competitive advantage and sustaining innovation.
Hence this research was carried out to
identify areas where businesses can exploit
the potential of untapped IT applications
and the areas where academic institutions
can strengthen their curriculum. IT trends
in different areas were also studied in
detail and a trend-line was developed
which helped in measuring where a business
exists on the path of evolution in IT.
